| When installing a CCTV system into this store, the owner was offered monitoring for his site, which he declined. We suggested that monitoring was a successful part of our business, and offered to do a number of days free monitoring.
After a months recordings were made, we removed recordings for monitoring, Within15 minutes of monitoring starting we identified a senior female staff member who had been with company for 4/5 years underinging hot food into the tills. The first incident was a male customer arriving at till with hot food items, the male counted out £3.27 of change, and the female operator rang into till non scan hot food 27p, this left the till £3 over. We then carried out a search on the system for hot food non-scan and it identified 21 of these incidents on that day. We watched the end of the shift and saw the female removing £50 in notes, which she placed into plastic bag and put on top of her handbag, which was below till counter. The staff member then removed her till drawer and took to the cash office as normal. The cash drawer total would have been correct with the X reading because the excess amount of cash under-rang during the day was already removed. This female then went back to her handbag, which she lifts and leaves the premises. We searched the system again and found that this occurred 3 days in succession. We contacted the owner who arrived on the Tuesday for review; he confirmed that what she was doing was theft. On the Wednesday we interviewed the staff member at the interview the staff member admitted £21k of theft over 2 years. Because this was a long serving member of staff the owner agreed that she would pay back £4.5k, this was repaid and staff member left company.
