| A local retailer attended our premises with at least two to three inches thick of paper work saying he suspected losses within his business, I asked him if he had cameras installed in his shop, the retailer said that he had cameras installed. On surveying the site we noted that 8 cameras were installed but only one was covering two till areas, to adequately cover the point of sale we installed two additional cameras hidden above the 2 tills.
The owner, four family members and six additional staff members worked in the shop, during our investigation we caught five of the six, staff members stealing who during interview admitted to a combined theft of over £100k over a two year period. The owner had been in business for over 14 years and was an experienced retailer but could not identify were his theft problems lay, the bank was putting pressure on him informing him that his overdraft was extending and that he needed to do something about it.
Within a couple days monitoring we caught the 5 out of 6 full time staff members, one of the young females who admitted stealing excess £100 per day did make comment that when she got home and threw the money that had been stolen onto the bed she was physically sick.
This store has now been renovated and extended and owner reported within a week of monitoring and completing the investigation he reported a significant increase in turnover and margin. Last year he reported £1000 per week increase; in his business and that in 15 years of business he had his best year ever. There were no prosecutions because all agreed to repay, what they had admitted to stealing, one young girl paid back in excess of £17k.
